I’m not a Mac fanboy however. I feel strongly about that. I do not stand in line waiting for the next product and I do not start arguments with people that have loyalties with other technology companies.

I bought an iPhone 3g just over two years ago. It was the best phone I had ever owned by far. I didn’t even know phones could be that good. It seemed that there really was an app for everything and I had pages full of them. I had previously owned a windows smart phone and that was awful, so that made me strongly believe that Apple had THE best phone available. I still believe that I was correct.

It’s now 2010 and I don’t think the iPhone has changed much at all. The things that I used to love the iPhone are now old, and there wasn’t much that made me want an iPhone 4. I’m a bit of a geek, so I love the thrill of getting something new to play with. If I got an iPhone 4, what would I gain? The retina display didn’t interest me. I don’t play games on my phones (much). Other phones have better cameras. I do not get teary eyed thinking about calling my sister in Chicago on my glossy iPhone, I have had a skype account for years and would much rather use that.

The main thing that frustrated me with the release of the iPhone was (surprisingly not the “grip of death”) iOS4. I was actually quite excited to get it installed on my 3g. What a HUGE mistake! My once perfect “show off to my friends” phone was now slow and unresponsive. For about a week my main thought was “Well, it’s time to upgrade to an iPhone 4 obviously”.

My inner Apple zombie craved the brains of an iPhone 4 but I fought it. I ended up buying a Google Android HTC Desire. All I can say is O – M – G. What was I thinking all this time?!? Using Google’s operating system is an absolute pleasure. It’s so fantastic. It’s hard to explain because, really, they are very very similar but there’s a clear winner in my mind.

I strongly urge anyone who is thinking of upgrading to an iPhone 4 to at least watch some *unbias* reviews of Android phones. Don’t get sucked into any Apple or Android fanboy reviews, go for honest, impartial opinions. Make up your own mind.

Next week, the iPad ;)

It was a great opportunity to design a really clean and modern layout, and the improvements to 3.0 made it even more of a pleasure to build. I used the new menu system for this site, along with custom post types. Even though this particular website only has four links within the menu, I can really see how good 3.0 is and I’m excited to build something more complex with this new system.
